Artist Q&A: Marc Wainstein

So, if you haven't heard of 4AM by now, you surely must've been living under a rock. Am I right? Let me introduce you to one of the most talented acts South Africa has seen in a while!

Greg Bester, Marc Wainstein, Basil Byrne and Aidan Starr have established themselves in various bands in South Africa throughout the years before they started 4AM. Their musical direction is a combination of heartfelt, passionate pop-rock tracks with hints of electro sampling, designed to push the
boundaries and elevate emotions through music.

Their debut album, Light From Light, produced the hit single Sirens, of which the music video can been seen on http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmozCnfld2g.

Having received airplay on some of the biggest local radio stations including 5FM, Highveld Stereo, KFM and East Coast Radio, 4AM is set to take the local music scene by storm!

I managed to track down Marc Wainstein for a few short questions before he embarks on a national tour with 4AM and Evolver One.

If we didn't have any clue as to who 4AM were, what sentence would sum the group up?
A rock band from Edenvale, Johannesburg that likes long strolls on the beach and romantic novels!

How would you describe your debut album, Light From Light?
It’s a 10-track album filled with pop-rock tracks with a similar theme in mind, which is drawing positive energy from any situation and rising above adversities, hence the title Light From Light. I would also like to think the album has something for everyone, up-tempo tracks to even some chilled ballads that I hope anyone - young and old - can enjoy.

What's the hardest part about being in a band?
Dealing with the paparazzi! (Laughs)
I think keeping yourself motivated constantly. Being in a band is a tough, long road that requires a lot of dedication so it’s definitely not for the faint hearted.

If I were contemplating coming to your show or sitting at home in front of the TV, how would you convince me to come out?
I would tell Basil our bassist to wear hot pants and a boob tube, showing a bit of skin always gets the club rocking and would definitely have you there in a second.

What does the future look like for 4AM?
Well, we're actually just about to start a national tour with well known S.A. band Evolver One in September and will be playing in Cape Town, P.E, East London, Johannesburg, Krugersdorp and loads more so come check us out! We also just wrapped up the shoot for our latest music video for our second single Steering Ships and it’s looking so amazing! Thanks to MK for the fantastic budget and Unleashed, the production company and mastermind behind the storyboard and production. It's gonna look great so keep a look out for it!
